EMDR, or Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing is a psychotherapy treatment that is designed to alleviate the distress associated with traumatic memories.
After successful treatment, affective distress is relieved, negative beliefs are reformulated, and physiological arousal is reduced.

IPT, or Interpersonal Psychotherapy provides a focused and time limited approach for the treatment of major depression. It is modest in its use of psychotherapy jargon and promotes attention to the relationship based issues which are central to the experience of many depressed patients. The fundamental clinical task of IPT is to help patients to learn to link mood with interpersonal contacts, and to recognise that by appropriately addressing interpersonal situations they may simultaneously improve both their relationships and depressive state.

Counselling is a process by which individuals or couples can explore with a professionally qualified accredited individual the issues/problems that are causing them distress. Counselling, Psychotherapy is strictly confidential and uses a non judgemental approach. As a therapist, I will actively listen and help you to explore the nature of your problem, which is causing you distress. I will help you to gain a new understanding of the issues in order to assist you in making a change and reaching your goals for therapy. I use specific Clinical Measures which help to identify your symptoms and the level of distress and the problems caused by your symptoms to your daily life, work and relationships. These measures are widely used in the NHS in Primary Mental Health Care.

Couple therapy is very effective in helping couples to begin communicating, sometimes there is an increase initially perhaps of the disharmony as you battle your way through the difficulties.
